TeraNet Test - Frequently Asked Questions

What is Teranet Test?

The Teralight Ltd Teranet Test product is an application to capture/detect the fraudulent numbers which are using a grey route to make/receive international phone calls. It is a suite of products that are based upon the following approach:

  • Teranet Test Solution by pushing the calls to the Operator's Network
  • Detect the Fraudulent Numbers
  • Eliminate the problem by informing the operator so they may block the offending numbers
The Teranet Test Solution has the following major components:
  • The Prevail Reporting Application is installed in the Teralight NOC to generate the required reports.
  • Network Call Generation System in our POPs.
  • Non-Directory Numbers in the Home Operator Network.
  • CallerID Box, GSM to Analog conversion Box and Desktop Machine. These are portable and can be installed anywhere in the whole country. No Limitation.

How it works?

Teranet Test uses its automated call generation system to initiate calls to customer networks using different routes and networks. After terminating at the destination these calls' records are captured by the Caller-ID box using its software EL-Popup. These records are processed in the Teranet Test Prevail Application to generate the Suspected/Grey route report.

What are the major requirements?

Major requirements at the Teralight NOC are Prevail Application with License & multiple calling routes. At the customer end test numbers and the caller-ID box are required.

What is the duration of the test?

This test can run from 1 hour to 24 hours continuously for as long a period as agreed between the customer and Teralight. Typically this is done for six month periods.

What are grey routes?

Grey routes are the illegal routes used to terminate the call at the destination.

How can we identify the grey route?

Most of the grey routes in international calling can be identified by a local number terminating the call instead of the actual international dialing number. Some grey route operators also send 'No-Caller ID', '12345' and other haphazard numbers.

What is the flow methodology of this test?

  1. As per the requirement, setup the license for the Prevail Application in our NOC to provide automatic reporting for the customer.
  2. Get the Non-listed numbers from the customer which is a minimum of 80 numbers.
  3. Ask the operator to configure at least 20 numbers on one SIM.
  4. Install and configure the GSM box, CallerID box and desktop machine in the home country.
  5. Setup test call generator in different POPs.
  6. Test the complete setup.
  7. Got a Query?

  8. Start sending the calls to the non-directory numbers.
  9. Prevail captures the data from the already configured desktop machine which is storing the CDRs.
  10. Prevail processes the data in real-time and sends the automatic report through email to the customer email address.
  11. In the Prevail report, any Calling number with a local number would be identified as a SIM Box number and highlighted in the report.
  12. After the submissions of the report by Prevail, the operator blocks that number within two hours time. The Grey route operator changes the SIMs and we block the other SIMs until he stops getting the business from the partners in other countries.
  13. If the operator doesn't block the number and it comes again in the Prevail reporting process after 2 hours of the last report then it is treated as new fraudulent number.
  14. If the Fraudulent number is from some adjacent operator then it needs to be reported by our customer to the adjacent operator to block on their network too.
  15. After every 24 hour period, Prevail generates the summarized report of all the detected numbers of the day.
  16. In a few cases, the CLI has been blocked by the grey route operator. If we start seeing it very frequently in our Prevail reports then follow-up is requested from the operator.

How the grey routes are eliminated?

Teranet provides the report of grey routes after every two hours (or any other agreed time) and the grey route elimination is the responsibility of customer.

Will it be done in real time?

After getting the report the customer can block the grey route manually.

How many types of reports can be generated by Teranet Test?

From the customer's perspective Teranet Test can generate the report of suspected numbers with a desired duration of 1 hour to 24 hours.

What are the report formats?

Reports can be provided in many formats like, PDF, CSV, MS-Excel & RTF.

Is reporting done manually or automatically?

Report generation is a manual process.

What support should be provided by the customer?

Customer should ensure the availability of all test numbers 24/7 during the activity and the internet connectivity of the desktop machine.

Can the Teranet team provide on site support?

The Teranet team can not provide the on-site support to the customer as they typically have internal security procedures that require that only employees enter switching facilities. Teranet Test provides remote support.

At what time will support be available by Teranet team?

Remote support is available 24/7 except public holidays.
