Bangladeshi operators urge lowering of Sim tax

Bangladeshi mobile operators called on the government to reduce the Sim tax more. The operators say the Sim tax makes it hard to expand to rural consumers. The operators argue that the Sim tax is taxing the poorest segment of society as the more affluent consumers already have a mobile phone and are unlikely to take up new connections, the Financial Express reports. The government currently levies a tax of BDT 600 per Sim card, which is down from BDT 800 last year.
